OUR TAKE
Okay, now we are ACTUALLY in the final three episodes of the season, and to my pleasant surprise, it’s a Mei and Piichi focused episode. Well, more like a Piichi focused episode with Mei in the background providing color commentary, but I guess it’s just good that these two are getting the majority of focus for an episode away from Gero and Arashiyama, who do get moments in this episode at pivotal moments but are otherwise absent. Piichi has most certainly been active in this arc since his introduction, though mainly through fighting off countless goons in the background with stuff with the other characters was happening, while Mei has continued to play the support role that he has had since the second episode of this season. It’s a shame too since everything made it seem he and Gero would be the main focus of this series, but he’s just been doing what he said he would do and giving Gero tips on dating. Side note, I accidently called Mei a she earlier and corrected it, but it goes to show just how much his usual feminine look really tricks my and probably other viewers’ brains when they’re least expecting it.
As for Piichi, he goes head to head with Byakko, Toshiro’s attendant who likes dressing up in a bear costume to fight, with that apparently being her family’s style of using Beast power, and we get a look at her backstory which is oddly similar to Arashiyama, in that they were both part of lesser Beast Clan families, then their older family member died from poverty and lack of support and they were emboldened to stay alive and improve thanks to higher ranking guy with glasses saving them. In Arashiyama’s case it was Gero, but in Byakko’s case it was Toshiro, who took her under his wing. And when they are backed into a corner thanks to Piichi getting a well timed phone call from his girlfriend, Byakko takes control of Hyakko, Toshiro’s combination of the many blood samples he collected, completed with Gero’s blood helping tie it all together. But THAT ultimately doesn’t do much against Piichi and the now arriving Gero, so Toshiro himself joins the fight by overwhelming himself with Hyakko’s blood and the other samples, leading to the climax of the arc next week! Hope you’re looking forward to it, because I sure as hell am!
