English Dub Review: Farming Life in Another World “More Hot Spring Expedition”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
They’ve dealt with the Lord of Death. Now they need to decide what to do with the black stones.
Our Take:
To the season’s credit, it continues its attempt to offer something interesting outside the village while retaining its low-stakes tone. Its two-parter, involving an “epic” quest to locate a hot spring, is one such case, with Hiraku and the others making more unusual discoveries as they build their resort. That includes an undead army and its leader, which would’ve been seen as an imposing threat for the characters to face, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. The “Lord of Death” is actually a young girl named Urza, whom Kiabit suspected to be the hero queen who had mysteriously transformed into the leader of the undead. This aspect would’ve made for a struggle that’s as enticing as the martial arts tournament, but given the show’s approach, I should’ve known that it would turn out differently.
Another discovery worth noting is the mysterious black stone that Vargryfe and her team found in the previous episode. To no one’s surprise, instead of uncovering its origin, Hiraku and the others decide to carve it into a statue resembling God, prompting them to do the same for the other black stones. Basically, this “exciting” conclusion to the season’s two-parter has the characters going on a black stone hunt throughout the caves after “dealing” with the undead army. It does showcase a small piece of story development, including Latismoon struggling to express her feelings for Hiraku. Other than that, this expedition is just as ordinary as their casual day in the village, for better or worse.
