The Backwater Swordmaster Returns: ‘From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman’ Season 2 English Dub Arrives This July

Get your training wooden swords ready. Amazon Prime Video has officially locked in the English dub release date for one of last year’s biggest sleeper hits.

The English dub for From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on July 8, 2026. Fans can tune in starting at 8:15 a.m. Pacific Time exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Task Failed Successfully: The Story So Far

For the uninitiated, From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (known in Japan as Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru) follows Beryl Gardinant, a fundamentally humble, middle-aged sword instructor who has spent his life running a quiet, backwater dojo. Beryl firmly believes he is completely unremarkable.

The catch? His former students have gone on to become the most ridiculously overpowered individuals in the entire realm—including elite knights, legendary high-ranking adventurers, and master sorcerers. When his star pupil, Allucia Citrus (the Commander of the Royal Order of Knights), drafts him into the capital to become the special instructor to the kingdom’s elite forces, Beryl is forced into a life of high-stakes duels and monster hunting, all while completely oblivious to his own legendary skill level.

Season 1 was highly praised by fans for its surprisingly grounded, weight-driven sword choreography, drawing inspiration from real-world historical European martial arts (HEMA) stances.

What to Expect in Season 2

Produced once again by animation studios Passione and Hayabusa Film, Season 2 is set to expand Beryl’s world beyond the capital. Following the introduction of the mysterious Rose Marbleheart at the tail end of the first season, the upcoming arc will see Beryl dealing with shifting international relations, deeper magical mysteries, and, naturally, more dangerous threats that he will accidentally dismantle while apologizing for his “poor form.”

The English dub broadcast will follow Amazon’s simulcasting model, giving fans who fell in love with Cory Yee’s comforting, beautifully dense portrayal of Beryl in Season 1 a chance to dive right back into the action.

If you need to refresh your memory on Beryl’s unintentional flexes, the entirety of Season 1 is currently streaming with English Dub configurations on Prime Video.
