‘Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway’ Sequel Launches in North American Theaters

The next chapter of the legendary Universal Century timeline has officially arrived state-side. Bandai Namco Filmworks’ Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe made its theatrical debut in North America over the weekend, expanding the iconic franchise’s footprint in the independent domestic box office.

Released across 894 locations, the film pulled in an estimated $810,000 for its opening weekend, yielding a $906 per-theater average.

The launch follows a highly lucrative theatrical run in Japan earlier this year, where the sequel managed to surpass its critically acclaimed 2021 predecessor (Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway). The Sorcery of Nymph Circe grossed approximately 2.4 billion yen ($15.06 million USD) in its home territory, eclipsing the first film’s lifetime Japanese haul of 2.23 billion yen.

Directed by Shukou Murase and animated by Sunrise Animation Studios, the film picks up the high-stakes narrative of Hathaway Noa (voiced by Caleb Yen in the English dub and Kensho Ono in the Japanese original) as he leads the anti-Federation resistance movement MAFTY.

The successful international launch underscores the enduring global legacy of the nearly 50-year-old sci-fi franchise, proving that its mature storytelling and massive tactical mecha action continue to hold a firm grip on audiences worldwide.
