Jackpot! Netflix’s ‘Devil May Cry’ Reportedly Secured Through Season 3 Before Series Debut

In a massive show of confidence for its upcoming animation slate, Netflix has reportedly greenlit Season 3 of the Devil May Cry animated series—well before the first season has even hit the streaming platform.

The report, surfacing on May 10, 2026, suggests that the “Son of Sparda” is being positioned as a long-term cornerstone of Netflix’s adult animation strategy, following in the successful footsteps of Castlevania and Arcane.

A “Stylish” Long-Term Commitment

The series is being spearheaded by Adi Shankar, the creative force who redefined video game adaptations with the original Castlevania series. Shankar has previously categorized Devil May Cry as a key pillar in his “Bootleg Multiverse,” and this early three-season commitment allows the production team to map out a grand, multi-year narrative arc rather than a self-contained story.

Produced by the acclaimed Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender), the show is expected to deliver the high-octane, “SSS-Rank” action that defined the Capcom gaming franchise.

Why the Early Triple-Greenlight?

Netflix’s strategy with high-end animation has shifted toward ensuring production continuity. By securing three seasons upfront, Studio Mir can keep their specialized animation teams together without the typical multi-year gaps that often cause fan interest to wane.

This move also highlights Netflix’s continued reliance on established gaming IP. With the recent success of Blue Eye Samurai and the Cyberpunk series, the streamer is betting big that Dante’s “stylish action” will translate into a prestige hit.

Production Pedigree

To ensure the series remains faithful to the games, Hideaki Itsuno, the legendary director behind Devil May Cry 3, 4, and 5, is reportedly acting as an advisor. The animation is said to utilize a hybrid approach, blending traditional 2D character artistry with 3D environmental work to capture the gothic, over-the-top aesthetic of the underworld.

While an official release date for the first season has yet to be finalized, the report of a Season 3 renewal confirms that Netflix is ready to let it rock for the foreseeable future.
