English Dub Review: The Klutzy Class Monitor And The Girl With The Short Skirt “A Day Off With The Klutz/The Klutz Gets Plunged Into Battle On The Streets”
Overview:
Togo enjoys breakfast with Poem’s mom and little sister. While shopping, he rap-battles and meets her dad.
Our Take(Spoilers):
This episode was a lot of fun, but it did introduce an idea that I think will be slightly problematic. You see, it turns out that it’s against school rules for students to date, and as we know, Sakuradaimon is a big rule follower. It could be a problem, but it could also be a real character-shaping moment. Sakuradaimon is an idiot, so I don’t think he’s realized he has feelings for Poem, but when he does, it would be awesome if he sets the rules aside for her.
I love it when family gets involved in a rom-com. In this case, Sakuradaimon met Poem’s sister while out jogging and ended up having breakfast with them. This led to the whole “dating against the rules” revelation, but the best was yet to come.
As someone who’s about to turn 37, finding out that Poem’s dad is the same age was… something. Learning that he loves to rap was also a fun thing to find out. Dubbing a Japanese show into English is hard. Dubbing rap lyrics into English is even tougher, and they did a good job. It still sounded stilted and not the best, but I was honestly impressed with how they pulled it off.
Poem’s father was impressed with Sakuradaimon’s rapping abilities and offered to help him. Then Poem showed up, and you can imagine that as a father, he leapt to certain conclusions. I hope we get to see more interactions with Sakuradaimon and all of Poem’s family.
