English Dub Review: Nippon Sangoku “The Kanazawa Night Raid”
Overview:
In the latest episode of Nippon Sangoku, “The Kanazawa Night Raid,” Seii takes over Kuzuryu Castle as the conflict between it and Yamato comes to a head. Meanwhile, something strange seems to be in the air.
Our Take:
After the last episode ended with the siege on the castle, it seems that everything has already been resolved. Wajima declares that her forces have already won and are set to dip farther into Yamato. Meanwhile, orders are put into place to assassinate Sugoh, Tonotsugu, and the other Yamato soldiers.
Upon reaching Sugoh, he appears to still be tied up. However, this means little on his end, as he is still able to defeat them all. Things took a turn when one soldier nearly shoots him in the back. However, he is saved by a timely Tonotsugu, who asks him to escort him out of Kaga.
Sugoh immediately picks up Tonotsugu and runs through the streets. As mentioned, previous episodes left viewers guessing about what we would see from a child in the middle of war. However, this brief moment allows us to see Tonotsugu as a child in over his head.
However, the two aren’t out of the woods just yet, as they encounter Muuton, who is just about to finish them off. However, another figure, Yamato general Shiryo Nagamine, intervenes.
Things end with Aoteru as he takes note of recent protests, fearing that there might be a certain motivation behind it, all the while contemplating Wajima’s true nature. At the last second, he runs off, remembering something important…
One of the more notable aspects of the episode is its visuals. While previous episodes have put a lot of thought into designs, this story is notable for mostly taking place at night. The animators had the task of making everything visible and dynamic in spite of this. And they certainly delivered. This also makes the final scene, as Aoteru makes note of people in the capital, all the more stunning, especially when his eyes start to light up.
