English Dub Review: Dorohedoro “CHAOS SHOCK / BLACK BOX / ROOM 501”

Overview

I never imagined En would go down that easily. The sorcerers are thrown into chaos. And now I get why Nikaido doesn’t use magic.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the story continues balancing chaos, mystery, and absurd humor in a way only this series can balance with certain levels of seriousness. As the aftermath of a major event leaves the sorcerer world in disarray, creating tension between multiple factions, several characters pursue their own agendas at the same time. Despite the darker atmosphere hanging over the episode, it still finds room for bizarre comedy, strange side moments, and even unexpectedly stylish sequences that make the world feel as unpredictable as ever.

A large portion of the episode focuses on Nikaido and the emotional burden surrounding her magic, adding more depth to her character while gradually revealing why she has avoided using her abilities for so long. At the same time, Shin and Noi steal plenty of attention through an energetic pursuit sequence that blends slick direction, strong animation, and the series’ trademark brutality. The episode constantly shifts between emotional moments, weird humor, surreal imagery, and looming danger, yet somehow keeps everything feeling cohesive instead of overwhelming.

Overall, this was a slower but extremely engaging setup episode that excelled through atmosphere, character focus, and sheer creativity. Even without nonstop action, the episode never loses momentum thanks to its unique tone and constantly evolving storylines. Dorohedoro continues to stand out for how effortlessly it mixes horror, comedy, mystery, and stylish chaos together, while quietly building anticipation for the explosive conflict that seems ready to erupt next.
