English Dub Review: Snowball Earth “My First Friend”
Overview:
After meeting Ao and the others on the frozen Earth, Tetsuo is gradually accepted into the fold.
Our Take:
When it comes to combat and fighting kaiju, I like Tetsuo as a character. I’m not going to hold my breath, but with Yukio being back, I’m hopeful that maybe he isn’t quite so… awkward. I’m fully aware that the mechs and kaiju are a backdrop for an awkward kid learning how to make friends. But he should at least know how to act like a human. Seriously, why hasn’t Yukio told him, “How you talk to me is how you talk to everyone else.”
As you know, I love romance, and I would like to see Tetsuo and Ao build some sort of connection, but at this point, I think he needs to get comfortable talking to people. If he could take the mindset he has when fighting monsters and apply that towards literally everything else, I think he’d be passable at least. I know I’ve spent almost two paragraphs harping on the same point, but what I’m trying to say is that if Tetsuo acts as he did in this episode more than I think, the show will be a lot better than it has been.
