OUR TAKE
It’s nice to see more of the main characters come back together as we get closer to the end, even if it’s just a brief moment from Yuzuriha’s perspective. Even though her role is considerably less prominent than it used to be, she is one of the original group of characters from the very beginning of the story, along with Taiju, Tsukasa, and of course Senku. Her getting time with Taiju and him being the one to revive her for the second (maybe third?) time, especially since this time left her petrified for seven years. I’m honestly kinda surprised that they didn’t kiss the moment they saw each other. I mean it’s not like it’s exactly been a build up that they like each other, or that either of them were ever really worried they other didn’t like them, they just seemed to be holding off and really going for since everything was so crazy. Still, there’s several episodes to go pay that off, and even if they don’t, they’ve still been a really great and wholesome element of this whole show that’s been good at showing some relatively normal people among the geniuses around them leading the way to reviving humanity and civilization.
And that was just about one brief moment of the episode! As for a more substantial part revolving around a newer character, this week…resolves(?) the tension between Ryusui and Sai. And by resolves, I mean it’s basically Gen telling Sai to lighten up and realize that Ryusui’s insistent and arrogant behavior was just him wanting to spend more time with his brother. I gotta admit, I’m not super fond of the implications of a character who has a grievance with another (misinterpreted or not) having that situation resolved by that character they have issues with turning out to be totally in the right while the one with the problem just has to get over it. This is not helped by the fact that Sai just showed up and Ryusui has been around awhile and overdue for SOME sort of character development, AND Ryusui being the poster boy for a wholesome portrayal of a capitalist, which seems kind of irresponsible to portray right now. BUT, when I pull back from all of that, it’s nice to see these guys settle their differences, as brief as they were (despite technically lasting thousands of years). Oh yeah, and the simple explanation for building a working computer was neat too. I don’t expect many people to watch this show to get accurate lessons on coding, but it could just plant the seed of some future programmer to look into this further, which is a nice idea. With that, we continue onward towards the journey to launch a rocket into space and confront the entity that is Why-man.
