Adult Swim’s ‘Common Side Effects’ Receives Prestigious Peabody Award Nomination

Adult Swim’s upcoming 2D-animated series Common Side Effects has secured a spot as a nominee for the 86th Peabody Awards. The show is the sole animated representative in the Entertainment category this year, standing alongside live-action heavyweights in recognition of its storytelling and social relevance.

A Revolutionary Fungus and Big Pharma

Produced by Green Street Pictures, Bandera Entertainment, and Williams Street, the series centers on Marshall Cuso (voiced by Dave King), a mushroom expert based in Peru. The narrative follows Cuso after he discovers “the Blue Angel”—a potentially revolutionary fungus with the power to heal various ailments.

However, his discovery quickly turns dangerous as he becomes a target for both pharmaceutical companies and the DEA, who are determined to suppress or control the life-changing find.

Industry Recognition

The Peabody Awards are highly regarded for honoring stories that reflect pressing social issues across television and streaming media. Common Side Effects was highlighted by the organization for its distinct hand-drawn aesthetic and its exploration of corporate greed and medical ethics.

The winners of the 86th Peabody Awards will be honored at a ceremony in Los Angeles on May 31.
