English Dub Review: Dead Account “He’s a Freezer-type”
Overview
Soji and Kasubata’s battles resolve, but a fearsome enemy still awaits the weakened squad.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, the story continues its tournament arc while layering in multiple character backstories and sudden twists. The focus shifts heavily onto Kasubata, whose past and internal struggles are brought to the forefront as he overcomes manipulation through sheer resolve and unveils a new power that surprises both allies and opponents. These moments aim to deepen his character, linking his abilities to personal guilt and growth, while also reinforcing the show’s recurring theme that online behavior can have real-world consequences. At the same time, betrayals and shifting allegiances add tension, even if some developments feel abrupt.
The rest of the proceedings mixes engaging ideas with uneven execution. There are standout moments, particularly in how powers reflect digital concepts and identities, but the pacing suffers from frequent flashbacks and interruptions that break the flow of the ongoing conflict. Some characters, especially newer or less developed ones, come off as exaggerated or difficult to connect with, while others feel sidelined despite the high-stakes scenario. Still, the escalation toward a more serious threat heightens the tension, and the concept of digital personas manifesting in extreme ways remains one of the series’s more creative strengths.
Overall, this episode raises the stakes and pushes the arc toward a more intense confrontation, but it struggles to balance its storytelling. The blend of backstory, power reveals, and sudden twists can feel clunky, preventing key moments from landing as strongly as they should. While the central conflict is becoming more compelling and the themes remain interesting, the execution holds it back from reaching its full potential. With the arc nearing its climax, there’s still room for a stronger payoff if the series can refine its pacing and focus moving forward.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
