Review: American Dad “Aw Rats, A Pool Party”

The Smiths throw a pool party attended by Francine’s sister and Steve’s ex when a dead rat is found in the pool.

Our Take

Having held and been to many a pool party, usually people put chlorine in their pools to keep them clean so even if something were to die or leave behind a present the chlorine would clean it thereby making most of this week’s episode potentially solved, but it’s the RETURN OF AMERICAN DAD ON FOX!

Right off the bat the show kicks off with a short and we’re already seeing some of the pluses and minuses about the show being on network television as opposed to basic cable. For starters the opening bit omits the word “bitch” which I’m pretty sure FOX allows given that Stewie screams it all the time on Family Guy, but the real casualty would be when someone takes a dump in the pool and we don’t get a shot of it. I would think if the series were on cable we would’ve seen all the excrement we could handle given that we got a load of the Golden Turd on the TBS run, that and South Park has pretty much taken the gold for the most excrement by an animated comedy and they probably won’t relinquish that title for a while.

Still though, I’ll take SOME American Dad over no American Dad and the fact that we have a new season kicking off on FOX is overall a huge plus. That said, I’d hate to see the show suffer for any reason due to the return of the show given that the series’ ratings actually increased when it moved to TBS as a result of increased creative freedom. It will be fascinating to see how the producers adjust as time goes on.
