English Dub Review: Classroom of the Elite “The Extraordinary Prodigy”

Overview:

The third-years make their move to try to dominate the test’s top three slots.

Our Take:

I’ve never been the biggest fan of Koenji as a character, but he might be one of my favorites now. Some other members of the first-year class (I think) are trying to stop him from competing in challenges. He isn’t having any of that and runs away from them until cornered. Once he was cornered, he still held his own by beating up everyone who tried to stop him. He’s still a narcissistic, selfish asshole, but I might like him now.

Nanase needs to be careful because if not, I have a feeling she will get caught. She came to Ayanokoji’s tent at night, and it seems that some in her group are already questioning her loyalty. Ayanokoji even thought to himself that she only has value in the fact that she can give him insider info. If she gets found out, then she loses her usefulness to him, and as we’ve learned, Ayanokoji is more than willing to drop someone who isn’t useful.

One of the first-years, Tsubaki, is going all-in on the plan to get rid of Ayanokoji. I don’t know what her deal is, but she’s claimed that if they get found out doing anything that might get them suspended, she’s willing to take all the blame. I don’t know why she would go that far to get rid of Ayanokoji. The other characters make sense because there are 2 million points on the line, and there are few things I wouldn’t do for that much “money”.

With what essentially amounts to a price on his head, I’m surprised that Ayanokoji hasn’t had more resistance. I know I said that I enjoy Koenji more now, but I was a bit confused as to why that much effort was being put into stopping him. I thought Ayanokoji was the main one that people were after because it’s essentially an open secret that he’s a wanted man.

A fifth season for this show has already been announced, so that’s one thing I won’t have to worry about. With so few episodes left in the season, I imagine we’re going to get another cliffhanger ending. I don’t think a release timeline has come out yet, but it has to at least be in development now.
