OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
The Broadcast Club celebrates their successful festival event, though the four girls all have some business with Arisu…who falls asleep from exhaustion.
OUR TAKE
We have reached the halfway point of the season and it seems we’ll be spending this having a bit of a cool down from the high energy events of the last couple episodes. Well, it’s more of a cool down for Arisu, who is so exhausted by everything he’s had to run around and do that he conks out just about when the celebrations start. But it seems he picked a bad time to do that, as all of the girls go to this little home party dressed up to the nines for the sole purpose of getting his attention, and some like Iko and Nene try getting some alone time with his unconscious body. As previously mentioned, they are all quite taken with him by this point thanks to him helping them all out in their respective pursuits, and it seems their ambition has rubbed off on him, as now he also has a voice related career dream of being a producer, a position that can help all of his new friends’ dream jobs at once. As much as this is very much a show about teasing possible romances, it’s nice to see that the spirit of friendship and support is strong between this group, and not turning into a bitter rivalry, at least not yet.
But beyond all the teasing this episode gets VERY much into, we do get a bit more of a hint into the identity of the mysterious Apollo that Arisu is looking for…and probably more of a hint than the writers were intending, but that’s the risk you take when this is a medium that involves voices and one of them being a bit more distinct from the others. See, during Arisu’s cup and string conversation with Apollo, we hear more of her voice unfiltered than we ever have, and we hear that it’s actually kind of lower pitched. That narrows it down to exactly one of the girls, Rikka, the one who wants to be a singer. She got her focus story out of the way early, so it was easy for her to fall back into the background, but the voice Arisu talks to just doesn’t make sense for any of the other girls. Unless this is going to be fake out and turn out to be Rikka talking to him while pretending to be Apollo, they may have given up the ghost a bit sooner than they would have liked. But luckily for them, Arisu seems to want to uncover Apollo’s identity on his own without help, so I guess we’re dragging this out for another half a dozen episodes.
