English Dub Review: Sentenced to Be a Hero “Sentence: Defense Against Corruption at Mureed Fortress 2”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
As hope seems to slip away, Teoritta and Xylo make a do-or-die gambit against Demon Lord Iblis.

Our Take:
We knew for a fact that Xylo’s latest assignment as a hero would be a lot tougher given the circumstances.  However, we didn’t expect it to be this challenging, as the Demonic Blight worshippers were helping the enemy team turn the tide of the battle.  This sudden revelation puts Xylo and his team at a rather unfortunate disadvantage, especially since Teoritta can’t harm humans.  However, regarding the show’s storytelling, the episode further emphasizes the thrilling stakes of the missions, even though we’ve only known the characters for six episodes.  Regardless, this is an exhilarating conclusion to the latest two-parter assignment that highlights the impressive animation in its action sequences and the character moments stemming from their development.
The most prominent aspect of the latter is the bond between Xylo and Teoritta, who put their faith in each other to defeat the Demon Lord Iblis.  They share a common goal in putting themselves into battle to prove their worth, but it is also Xylo seeing Senerva in Teoritta that pushed him to ensure Teoritta doesn’t share the same fate as his previous goddess.  The way I see it, these elements serve as the next chapter of the duo’s companionship, as Xylo finally pats Teoritta’s head for doing her part in battle.  This compelling piece of development and its direction of the presentation make the episode a glorious victory in the show’s “hero sentencing” concept.  Of course, Tatsuya also remains the series’s MVP for his impressive strength and sudden ability to make people’s heads explode.  But it also raises more questions about this mysterious hero’s origin, which would undermine their trust in Tatsuya.
