English Dub Review: A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans “The Misanthrope and Tobari’s Hymn”

Overview:

Rei ruins his colleague’s handkerchief by accident, only to discover that Tobari witnessed the whole thing.

Our Take:

We learned a few things in this episode. We learned that Mr. Hoshino is married and that his wife gave him a handkerchief for his birthday. This is relevant because Rei ruins the handkerchief with soy sauce. I understand that it can put you in an anxious spot but Rei is an adult and for the life of me I can’t figure out why it took a student telling him that all he needed to do was admit the mistake. Hoshino handled the problem like an adult and there were no issues. I do wonder if Hoshino’s wife is the same woman that Rei has a crush on. I only have this theory because the handkerchief has snowflakes on it, and the woman gives off winter vibes.

Rei also told Tobari about his traumatic past. He helped a student previously, and I’m guessing things didn’t go well for her because she spread a rumor that Rei assaulted her. As you can imagine this would lead him to have an aversion to helping his students so when Tobari asks for help he has to get over that.
