English Dub Review: The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen “The Cruel Queen Takes Notice, and is Noticed”

Overview:

With the engagement behind her, Pride faces the future with what her evil counterpart never had: people who care for her.

Our Take:

I’d like to talk about Karlii Hoch for a second. I’ve grown to love Pride as a character, and Karlii’s portrayal is the main reason for that. There was a scene in this episode where Pride was vulnerable with Stale about something her mother said (more on that later). The raw emotion you could hear and feel from Pride in that moment was powerful. I can understand why it might be hard to live in a world that you know the outcome of in some ways, and knowing that another version of you made it worse for some.

While meeting with her mother, Pride got a bit of a shock. Her mother told her that she had a premonition when Pride was younger about her being evil. Hurting and killing people and bringing nothing but harm to her people. This shocked Pride down to her core because I think she thought she was the only one who had any idea of what could have been. But clearly her mother knew that there was a chance that Pride could have been evil.

Sorry that I seem to be skipping around, but the first things I talked about stood out to me most. Remember when I said that I wasn’t sure if Val was a part of Pride’s harem? I think we can definitely say he is now. When he found out that Pride was no longer engaged, he got very happy. If I’m being honest, Val and Pride seem to have the most chemistry other than Leon. I don’t know what their age gap is, but they get along well.

I don’t know what our upcoming arc will be, but I think Stale and Arthur are going to be big parts. This is good because we haven’t gotten a lot of time with them, and I think we need that. If I were to personally choose a suitor for Pride, I would probably lean towards Arthur. I like Stale, and I know that he’s not actually her brother, but he was adopted. Royal families aren’t exactly opposed to things like that, but I do wonder where Pride’s romantic future lies. I hope we get a little bit more action coming up since it seems that romance is going to be more subdued.
