Review: Feride vs. the World “Episode 4”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
As she explores what life is like with Ismet back in the picture, Feride dabbles in tea leaf reading and explains the origins of her ponytail.

Our Take:
If you remembered the previous episode, Ismet was seeking to get back together with Feride, only to be embarrassed when she laughed at his poetry.  However, it looks like that flew under the radar, thanks to this week’s episode, as Feride and Ismet are now back together.  As expected, viewers will see the usual relationship drama they’ve seen in other sitcoms, with Feride explaining how she and Ismet rekindled their connection through a reality-show-like flashback.  Additionally, we see Feride enter Ismet’s mind as an attempt to get him to call off his proposal to her, highlighting the show’s effort to evoke surrealism within its sitcom flair.
Watching this episode has certainly made me realize one thing, aside from the show being boring and derivative.  It’s that I now understand why Feride moved on from Ismet in the first place.  Ismet’s dream about a seductive old woman was understandably gross, and he fell asleep while Feride was explaining her “tragic” origin of how she got her signature ponytail.  Granted, it’s not very interesting to begin with, but he should at least pay attention anyway.  Anyway, this episode is yet another failed attempt to add some enjoyment and charm to this mean-spirited, formulaic animated sitcom, particularly in Feride’s fixed relationship with Ismet.
