English Dub Review: One Punch Man “Brave Child”

Overview

Child Emperor finds Waganma and faces Phoenix Man, using his ultimate weapon to protect him.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, this installment finally demonstrates a noticeable boost in ambition and execution. With Takashi Hashimoto, known for his work on Bleach, handling the storyboards and mecha direction, the episode’s action sequences feel more dynamic than usual, with camera movement, choreography, and effects that give fights a real sense of weight and scale. Child Emperor’s mechanical arsenal and problem-solving shine in a battle against Phoenix Man, whose costume-based powers and relentless revival add stakes and creativity to the confrontation. While some earlier episodes felt recycled or uneven, this one shows the potential of the animation and direction when handled with care.

The rest of the proceedings also balances its chaos with subtle character moments. Child Emperor’s ingenuity and bravery take center stage, supported by Zombieman and other allies, while the revived Phoenix Man introduces both tension and humor. Despite occasional abrupt transitions and some minor inconsistencies, the combination of compelling character design, inventive fight setups, and engaging strategies complements the high-energy battles.

Overall, this episode manages to recapture excitement for fans of the series. Even without heavy focus on Saitama, it delivered in terms of engaging action, smart use of supporting heroes, and the kind of inventive fight dynamics that keep the story interesting. While it’s too soon to predict how the rest of the season will unfold, this episode sets a promising tone and reminds viewers why One Punch Man remains compelling when it fully leans into its creative strengths.
