English Dub Review: Dusk Beyond the End of the World “Do Androids Dream of Electric Doves?”
Overview:
Akira learns more about the AI War.
Our Take:
With this being an anime original, I’m starting to get a little worried that we’re going to run out of time for what could be a good story. Twelve episodes is not a lot of time to tell a complicated story like this seems to be, and I don’t think the romance is going to develop properly either. Especially with the way things are laid out by the narrative. Akira is still in love with Towasa, but Yuugure is starting to fall for him, and Amoru wants to LC with both of them. Next week is the sixth episode, which means we’re halfway done, and I don’t see how we can get satisfying answers and resolutions to the plot and romantic developments.
Having said all that, I hope to be proven wrong because I am enjoying this show, so I’m afraid I’m going to end up disappointed. The worldbuilding and characters have been good thus far, and the voice acting has been excellent as well. The beginning of this episode felt a little off in the sound department during Yuugure’s fight. Speaking of the fight, I was a little disappointed at just how quickly the plot with Fides and Kalcrom was wrapped up. That’s my biggest concern with the pacing thus far: interesting plot threads will have to get sewn up too fast to feel important.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
