English Dub Review: Wandance “Contest”
Overview:
Wandance has dropped the dub of its sixth episode, “Contest,” which sees Kabo, Wanda, and the dance club finally perform in front of a live audience for the first time.
Our Take:
It’s finally the moment viewers have been waiting for since the start: the club’s first big performance. At first, viewers might be tempted to think that less is more. The dancers aren’t too robotic and aren’t too similar to each other, reflecting On’s advice. However, things really take off when Kabo gets to go solo. Wanda and her inexplicable light crew also make an impression.
The producers seem to realize that viewers would appreciate a little 2D dancing, since Wanda and Kabo’s dancing briefly takes that direction for one impressive scene: in the middle of the dance, Kabo’s anxiety overtakes him, leaving him stunned. Fortunately, Wanda is right there to grab his hand and save the show.
Overall, the club’s big number really makes the episode, especially Wanda saving Kabo in the end. It’s tempting to say that the other characters being impressed is forced, but knowing what’s going on in everyone’s heads makes it feel all the more earned. In the end, you just have to admit, viewers just got to appreciate the show not making viewers wait until the next episode to see the club’s big performance.
Of course, even Assay is impressed. For some reason, he tells himself that he needs to stay impartial, and fans will be left wondering exactly what he means by that. It’s also tempting to wonder what the less-than-kind judges have to say.
