Hollywood Divas Unite: Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone to Produce a Miss Piggy Movie
Hollywood is buzzing with the news that Academy Award-winning actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are teaming up to produce a feature film centered on the most glamorous and temperamental Muppet, Miss Piggy.
Lawrence revealed the project during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, confirming that the film is in early development at Disney, which owns The Muppets franchise. This will mark the iconic diva’s first feature-length solo starring vehicle since her debut in the 1970s.
The duo has enlisted Tony Award-winning writer and performer Cole Escola (known for the hit Broadway play Oh, Mary!) to pen the screenplay. The collaboration is highly anticipated, given Escola’s distinct brand of irreverent humor and Miss Piggy’s long-standing status as a pop-culture diva.
Lawrence also teased the possibility of the two actresses appearing in the film, stating, “I think so. We have to… It’s fucked up [that we haven’t done a movie together].”
The spark for the film’s concept was inspired by “cancel culture,” as Lawrence explained in a separate interview. While that isn’t the direct plot, the idea came from a friend suggesting a scenario where “Miss Piggy is a feminist icon… it would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled.”
As the project is still in the early stages, no production timeline or additional casting details have been officially announced. However, the prospect of Miss Piggy finally taking center stage with the backing of two of Hollywood’s biggest stars has generated immense excitement among fans of The Muppets.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
