Alley Cats: Ricky Gervais’ New Animated Series Coming to Netflix in 2026

Ricky Gervais is returning to Netflix with a new adult animated comedy series titled Alley Cats, set to debut on the streaming platform in 2026. This new project marks Gervais’s first TV series as a creator and star since the conclusion of his acclaimed show After Life in 2022.

Described as a “slacker sitcom,” Alley Cats follows the “trials and tribulations” of a group of feral British cats from various walks of life. The cats seek companionship while ruminating on the absurdities of their everyday existence. The series is expected to feature Gervais’s signature blend of social commentary, heart, and humor.

Gervais will voice one of the main felines, a role he has described with his trademark self-deprecation: “I play a fat, lazy, rude, opinionated creature with fangs, who’s not as smart or brave as he thinks he is. So quite a stretch.”

The show will consist of six 15-minute episodes and will utilize a 2D animation style. Production is being handled by the U.K.-based studio Blink Industries, known for their work on Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.

The series will reunite Gervais with many of his frequent collaborators from past projects like After Life and Derek, including Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Diane Morgan, Natalie Cassidy, and Tony Way. Gervais is also an executive producer and will co-direct the series alongside Elliot Dear.
