English Dub Review: Tougen Anki “Work with Me”

Overview:

If they want to pass the test their teacher has given them, students must work together.

Our Take:

Shonen shows always confuse me because usually they involve high school students, and the amount of danger they get put in is baffling. First of all, they’re being put into situations where they could die, and that’s for school! My Hero Academia is the only shonen I can think of where they try to keep their students OUT of danger, and even there it doesn’t work out, and in the latter seasons they stopped trying. Not only that, but a branch of the school in Kyoto is being attacked, and the students are going to help. That’s wild to me, but I understand that these students are essentially demons, but still, it’s something that has bothered me about shows like this.

I feel bad because I was looking forward to this show, and it hasn’t been anything special so far. I don’t know how many episodes we’re gonna get yet but I would imagine it won’t be more than twelve. If that’s the case we’re a third or so through the season and nothing has happened to get me excited. Maybe that will change with this upcoming arc but I wouldn’t hold my breath right now.
