Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to Feature Puppet Episode in Season 4
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Paramount+ revealed a surprise teaser for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4, confirming an upcoming puppet-themed episode. The puppets for the episode were created by the iconic Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, and the episode is directed by Jordan Canning, known for her work on Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock.
The teaser showed a puppet version of Captain Pike on the bridge of the Enterprise, voiced by actor Anson Mount. He gives his signature command, “Hit it,” before realizing he’s alone on the bridge and asking, “Did you go to Season 4 without me?” Executive producer Akiva Goldsman joked that a “terrible transporter accident” might be responsible for the “felt-like effects.”
This is the latest in a series of “big swings” for the show, which has already featured a crossover with the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks and a full musical episode. The puppet episode continues the series’ mission to experiment with genres and push the boundaries of what a Star Trek show can be.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
