Eyes of Wakanda Gets New Premiere Date For Disney+

Fans eager to delve deeper into the rich history of Wakanda won’t have to wait long! Disney+ has just announced an accelerated premiere for the highly anticipated animated series, “Eyes of Wakanda.” All four half-hour episodes of the series will now drop simultaneously on August 1st, a significant three-and-a-half-week bump from its originally scheduled August 27th launch date.

The exciting news was revealed by showrunner and director Todd Harris in a pre-Comic-Con interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Eyes of Wakanda” promises to be a captivating exploration of Wakandan history, told through the compelling tales of brave warriors who ventured across the globe to recover vibranium artifacts.

The series boasts an impressive creative team, with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler (“Black Panther,” “Fruitvale Station,” “Sinners”) serving as an executive producer. This ensures a continuation of the thoughtful and immersive storytelling that has become synonymous with the “Black Panther” universe.

The first episode is set to transport viewers to 1260 B.C.E. and will center on a former Dora Milaje member named Noni, voiced by the talented Winnie Harlow. Noni is a prospective candidate for the Hatut Zeraze, the Wakandan secret service, and is described by Harris as “James Bond version of a Dora” who challenges the organization’s norms. Her initial mission involves tracking down a former Wakandan, known as the Lion (voiced by Cress Williams), who has become an independent warlord using stolen Wakandan advanced technology to conquer the Greek island of Crete. Noni’s crucial task is to retrieve these stolen artifacts.

Harris explained that these events in the first episode resonate throughout the semi-anthological series, as different heroes across various time periods and locations seek out more of these coveted items. He highlighted the show’s theme of historical interpretation, noting, “People pull truth out of history, and it might not necessarily be objective truth, but it’s theirs… ‘[History is] written by people who weren’t there and didn’t have anything to do with it,’ but they’re trying to make that story mean something to them. So that’s an interesting needle to thread throughout the series.”

Adding another layer of excitement for Marvel enthusiasts, Harris also confirmed that a surprising iteration of Iron Fist will make an appearance in the show. The voice cast is packed with talent, including Anika Noni Rose, Steve Toussaint, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, and Zeke Alton.

With all four episodes becoming available at once, “Eyes of Wakanda” is set to offer an immersive and immediate dive into the untold stories of this iconic nation when it premieres on Disney+ on August 1st.
