English Dub Review: Dandadan “We Can All Stay There Together!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
With everyone safely back at Seiko’s house, Momo and the others discover that water has a surprising effect on how Evil Eye possesses Jiji’s body.

Our Take:
As usual, the crew survived yet another bizarrely dangerous confrontation against a benevolent spirit.  However, that doesn’t mean their problems are resolved, as they have yet to get Evil Eye out of Jiji’s body.  While he’s encased by Taro’s body, it seems that this particular demon is a bit too obsessed with this special vessel.  That is, until the group unintentionally discovers that water plays a key role in bringing Jiji back, but there’s a catch to it.  The only solution for returning Jiji to normal is with hot water, meaning that cold water can unleash the Evil Eye.  I guess even demonic entities need to stay hydrated as well, especially one who’s more formidable than the rest. However, as it turns out in the episode’s cliffhanger ending, soy sauce also counts as cold water, concluding that the crew would have to keep an extra eye on Jiji until they can find a solution to getting Evil Eye out.
This episode effectively highlights Jiji’s similar predicament by differentiating his conditions from Okarun and Aira’s transformations.  Okarun and Aira can transform into their demonic forms at will after being possessed by the respective spirits, Turbo Granny and Acrobatic Silky.  In Jiji’s case, the Evil Eye can instantly take control of his body whenever he’s exposed to any type of cold water, including rain and, as previously stated, soy sauce.  This aspect not only kept the concept more interesting through the characters’ distinctive capabilities but also emphasized the stakes through Evil Eye’s uncontrollable and seemingly non-negotiable demeanor.  Even with Momo, Okarun, and Aira becoming more and more like a team due to their staying at Seiko’s house, they still have to keep on their toes in protecting Jiji from the Evil Eye.  I also realized that Seiko’s food is designed in live-action during certain scenes, which could’ve looked out of place, but it actually wasn’t.  If that’s true, then major kudos to Science Saru for displaying that type of illumination in this episode.
