“American Dad!” Returns to Fox, New Seasons and Guest Stars Announced at Comic-Con 2025
At the San Diego Comic-Con 2025 panel, “American Dad!” producers announced a major change for the long-running animated series: it’s returning to Fox for its upcoming seasons. This move marks a homecoming for the show, which originally aired on the network before moving to TBS in 2014.
Executive producer Matt Weitzman informed the audience that the show has been renewed for four more seasons, taking it through its 23rd season and beyond. While this is a cause for celebration, he also noted one key change: the show will no longer be able to use the swear words “shit” and “God damn it,” a restriction that comes with the new network.
The panel also unveiled an exciting list of guest stars set to lend their voices to upcoming episodes. The star-studded lineup includes RuPaul, Chris Pine, Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson, Joe Mantegna, Ming Na Wen, Wayne Newton, Jonathan Frakes, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, and Kyle MacLachlan.
Additionally, fans can look forward to new and imaginative storylines, including a space anthology episode that will take the show out of its normal suburban setting and a special 400th episode. The return to Fox and a renewed commitment for multiple seasons ensure that the outlandish adventures of the Smith family will continue for years to come.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
