English Dub Review: From Bureaucrat To Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated! “Dad Gets into an Elegant Pickle!”

Overview:

The student council decides to put on a gender-swapping play with Anna in the lead role! Unfortunately, Anna overworks herself to the point of collapse.

Our Take:

There goes the theory I had. I thought that Grace was putting on this play to try to get the “game” back on track. She would have Anna and the prince play opposite roles to try to generate some chemistry between them. Turns out that Grace is playing the prince herself, and I might have misjudged what this arc is about. I think that what it’s about is the mystery surrounding Grace’s mother. Her face is always covered during flashbacks, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the play they are adapting was created by her mother as well.

While the romance in this series has left much to be desired it has been a fun, cozy show to watch. The best part to me has been the love between a parent and child and vice versa. Anime characters often have strained or outright toxic relationships with their parents or children. It’s nice to see that Kenzaburo’s daughter loves him so much that she is dealing with a less than normal situation to try and save him.
