English Dub Review: Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister “Shirahi’s Mirage ~Ties~”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Uryu figures out that Shirahi is the one who changed the world, so she confesses her feelings and reasons for doing it.
OUR TAKE
The culprit has been uncovered! Well, more like Uryu finally connected the dots himself, since it was obvious to the audience that Shirahi was the one who caused this all along. Maybe if they had decided to start the arc in this alternate world and tried dripping in hints about it…actually no, that probably wouldn’t have worked either because of Shirahi’s lack of involvement in the story so far AND that her pretending to be his girlfriend would’ve given that away pretty quickly. I guess the point is to show that this plan was pretty much doomed from the start anyway, since Uryu is a smart guy and would’ve figured her out at some point eventually. But still, we do learn her main motivations for doing this, mainly that she felt him drifting away once he met the Amagami sisters and desperately clung to the idea that, if things had been different, she would’ve had a chance to make him fall for her instead if she had simply changed things so that she had already confessed her feelings before then. And hey, I’m sure we’ve all felt that way about someone at some point, where if we had merely spoken up then maybe they would’ve looked that way to begin with.
However, this show isn’t called “Tying the Knot With a Childhood Friend”, so unless Shirahi was gonna be revealed to be the secret biological daughter of the girls’ mom, she was pretty much out of the running from the start. That already torpedoes the stakes of this since there’s just no way Uryu’s going to fall for this or go along with it, but thankfully she’s also not THAT much of a Yandere and relents pretty much right away. So what was the point of this arc? Was it to give Uryu a test on whether he can reject someone with feelings for him with grace? I guess that’s a skill he’ll need if he’s going to pick just one of the sisters, as well as be on good terms with the other two that he doesn’t pick. And he does still genuinely care about Shirahi, even if he doesn’t want to date her. Plus, she gets to really see and appreciate how they have helped Uryu change for the better, going from a Reddit Atheist to an Atheist with some damn manners. However, that just leaves us with one episode left to wrap this season up, so let’s see if they stick the landing.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
