English Dub Review: Trillion Game “I LOVE NEWS”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Haru declares Trillion Game’s streaming service will first work on doing news, starting with courting a news anchor named Akari Shirotora and a producer named Kunugi.

OUR TAKE

Trillion Game (the show, not the company) moves towards closing the deal on its first season by kicking off its final arc, following the launch of their streaming service and its foray into reporting the news. And despite this being the third to last episode of the season, we’re still introducing new characters to add to Trillion Game (the company, not the show) and its ever expanding team. Just as previous arcs dove into the creation of online shops and video games, this one focuses on the business of telling the local news. It’s not just about telling accurate information, but presenting it in a dynamic, easy to digest ways that put one station above the rest. The new central coming from this world, Akari and Kunugi, reflect two important aspects of that business. Akari, as an anchor, represents the face viewers will see and hear when breaking news occurs, and she does her best April O’Neil as a face many will instantly want to look at and listen to when something is happening. Kunugi, working from the station, thinks about how to present that news and tries to strategize about how best to help people get that news as easily as possible. Despite the two being as different as two people can be, they’re the best at what they do in their workplace, but said workplace is considered at the bottom of the rankings.

This makes them prime targets for Haru, who has shown to have an eye for underappreciated talent, and gives Akari an interview in order to gauge her intentions, which are revealed to be pretty straightforward: She just wants to be a voice that people will trust and listen to. Kunugi takes a little more coercing, which Haru is plenty ready to do by giving their team a ride in a helicopter he bought to give them the chance to get a story about downed power lines before the other networks. With that, Akari and Kunugi convince their boss to sign with Trillion TV, though said boss forces Haru to confess that he doesn’t really care about news at all, just that he needs it to be able to bring in even bigger fish for the streaming service. And hey, that’s fine, as long as everyone’s getting what was agreed upon then it doesn’t really matter if he’s passionate about it or not, but it’s nice to see him being honest. Onto the penultimate episode of the season!
