English Dub Review: Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You. “Things That Change”

Overview:

Mizuho starts becoming aware of Shin’s intentions after he kisses her at the campsite.

Our Take:

Almost every show I’ve reviewed this week has included a kiss, which makes me excited for The Apothecary Diaries tomorrow. Having said that, it’s amazing to me how this show can make so little progress. I know Kizuki is a swimmer, but that doesn’t mean we have to tread water for almost all of the episodes. We’ve focused on most of the guys for an episode or two, and now it’s Shin’s turn, but that doesn’t mean the main plot is going anywhere. I suppose that would mean there would have to be a main plot, and other than who Mizuho ends up with, I can’t think of one.

I think a show like The Quintessential Quintuplets did a romance/mystery well. I’m not saying that is what this show is trying to do, but for me, at least, that’s the only thing that has me interested. Seeing Mizuho in her later years alone makes the main part of the show useless in my eyes. What could have made it lean more into the mystery would be to have Mizuho be married to one of them, and we try to figure it out. As it stands right now, this feels like a romance anime that doesn’t do anything great.
