OUR TAKE

Yeah, so, like I said for the last couple of reviews, this wraps up the three parter that finally gets Yuna to realize she like Uryu, yadda yadda yadda, now they all like him and treat him exactly the same as they did before yadda yadda yadda, now they’re all on the same page about liking him. So glad that it took them over a dozen and a half episodes to get where everyone expected them to from the very beginning! Well, I snark and all, but this is basically what the show has advertised itself pretty plainly from the start as well, so what am I even complaining about? Anyway, if I were to rank these three three parters, this one would probably go in the middle rank. It’s better than Yae’s since it gives Yuna an active role in things going on, but it doesn’t make her feel like as much of an active participant in the goings on as Asahi’s did for her. Yuna is still involved in that she gets mixed up in the body switching with Uryu, but the body switching itself is not as big a part of the solution as I would’ve liked, nor is Yuna’s involvement with it.

Yae’s arc was pretty much just about Uryu learning he had met her before and she was adopted, as if that was supposed to be some big test of his moral fortitude or something. Just give him an interactive flashback and then dump him back in the present. Asahi’s, meanwhile, required both Uryu to learn not to guide her choices too much AND for Asahi to figure her own shit out and make those choices for herself. Both were needed in order for them to break the time loop literally and metaphorically (meaning to break some bad habits that were keeping them from moving forward). But Uryu and Yuna switching bodies…well, it made for some interesting comedy I guess, and it gave a somewhat of a good reason for him to get exposition from Yuna’s friend, who has her own experience with running a family business, but I’m not sure why that needed body swapping necessarily. Either way, Yuna is more recommitted in her efforts to keep the shrine fresh by becoming the heir, and honestly this kinda seems like she might have a shot at that. But that leaves us with four episodes left in the season, and it looks like we’re going to be focusing on a character who’s been lurking in the background, and I don’t mean the ghost.
