English Dub Review: Trillion Game “The Price of Glory”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Gaku goes to a high school reunion and meets up with an old crush.
OUR TAKE
Oh whoops, forgot about this one. I guess we’re taking a break from the regular progression and giving everyone a little time to enjoy their newfound monetary success. Crazy to think we’ve only got six episodes left of the show, but then again, if there’s any big confrontation or challenge left for the characters to face in the remaining episodes, then now would be a good time for them to have a breather. Of course, Haru is still working around the clock in his own way back at God Promo, and the guys at Trillion Game are getting stuff like cool cars now that they’re making a ton of cash, but Gaku, now temporarily homeless, is a more humble sort of man. He just wants to make enough money to support himself and share that with the woman he loves. Well, we haven’t really gotten too much into his backstory OR that woman he loves…until now, when he gets an invite to his high school graduation. I have no way of knowing the average age of our readership here at Bubbleblabber, but if you’re anywhere near my age of mid-30’s (really need to change that bio at the bottom), you’ve probably been to or missed a high school reunion and wished you had done more with your life to you could brag to all of the people who didn’t expect much of you!
Well, in Gaku’s case, he COULD brag about being part of the rising star company that just put out the most popular mobile app out right now…but he doesn’t (though the info does come out). He’s there to see his old high school crush, who helped him out one time. They shared a moment and he wants to find out if that’s real! And it turns out she’s now a smoking hot babe who won’t give the superficial ad agency bros the time of day but SO WANTS HIM. So, she asks him to come look at her old flute (oldest line in the book) but when it turns out she wants to…ahem…look at HIS flute, he decides to run off. Now, I want to be clear that I respect Gaku’s right to say “no” if he doesn’t want to get down and dirty right then and there, but the reasoning behind that seems to be unclear in how it’s presented. Is he disappointed that she’s not as pure or wholesome as remembers her being in high school? Does he think she’s only into him now because of his success? Or is it something else that was also not very well conveyed? Either way, it’s a really weird sequence with some unfortunate implications, and hopefully the remaining six episodes of the series are better than this. We’re due for a major upset or shakeup to the status quo so let’s get that over with already.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
