English Dub Review: The Apothecary Diaries “Fox Village”

Overview:

Suirei smuggles Maomao and Shisui out of the rear palace. Jinshi begins to search for Maomao.

Our Take(Spoilers):

I have a feeling that the mystery Maomao has become involved in won’t be solved in one or two episodes. She was kidnapped to protect Shisui, but we later learned that she is the sister of the kidnapper, Suirei. Maomao noticed that Suirei seemed to have an aversion to snakes and threw one at her while they were walking. She started to have a panic attack, and Shisui came to her rescue pretty quickly, and Maomao was able to deduce the rest. From there, they were led to a village that Maomao had never heard of before.

I’m a little confused as to what is going on, but it feels like we’re supposed to be. It feels like this is going to be an arc that focuses on political upheaval. I don’t know what revelations await us, but there was always something about Shisui that seemed a bit off. She was as sharp as Maomao, but according to her, she didn’t have any sort of formal education. I wonder if we’re about to witness some sort of coup attempt.
