English Dub Review: Medalist “Shirone’s Lesson”

Overview:

Tsukasa learns of the anguish Rioh has been carrying and dances Rioh’s program on the rink. Rioh is surprised to see that Tsukasa’s skating is much more skillful than he expected.

Our Take:

Once again Tsukasa has proven he is the best coach on planet Earth. He didn’t yell at Rioh or try to say he was better than Rioh thought he was. Instead, he went out on the ice and showed that while he might have the most practice or the longest career, he could do Rioh’s program without a problem. The most impressive part was once he reached the part in the choreography where Rioh fell he guessed what the next part would be and nailed it.

I always thought the movements in ice skating and ballet seemed similar. Well, it sounds like ballet is used to help train. Ryouka had previously tried to do ballet to help train but she got bored and quit. When she saw all the progress Rioh and Inori were making though she had wished she stuck with it. My favorite part was when Shirone (the ballet instructor) asked Ryouka if she did her hair to look like cat ears on purpose and she replied saying it was her whole personality.
