Review: American Dad “Pork ‘N Feelings”

Overview

To save their marriage, Jeff needs Hayley to open up more to him, but she wants no part in it.

Our Take

I guess we can ignore elements of  “The Girl Who Cried Space Jam” episode that saw Hayley lose her job, how she got into basketball, and whatever happened during the Morning Mimosas episode from just last week. This week’s episode of American Dad does one thing and one thing only…talk about sex babaaayyyyy.

That’s right, marinate the nether rod, cattle prod the oyster ditch, whatever you want to call it, this week’s episode deals largely about the intimacy issues that are growing in Jeff and Hayley’s marriage and what they can do to spice things up. Interestingly enough, the episode focuses on Jeff wanting more out of their relationship from finding ways to have a deeper relationship than just the young couple just knocking one out which is what Hayley prefers after a long day of work.

For whatever reason, we are getting a HEAVY amount of Hayley this season. Not that I’m complaining, but it just seems like Hayley has been at the center of every episode that has aired thus far. In fact, I was even thinking this was going to be a more Roger-centric episode with the way this one kicked off and I was kinda looking forward to it, but whatever setup writer Kate Spurgeon was giving us at the get-go with Roger eventually trickled off early and just put the focus more on Hayley.

I’m not trying to completely ignore the roller-skating competition that Bullock eventually gets into but the entire bit is so brief it’s not even worth mentioning. Granted it was great seeing Avery and the rest of the CIA gang again for what seemed like forever, but the reunion is very fleeting and ultimately very vanilla.

Overall, a solid episode of American Dad because I liked the fact that we get an episode that has a pretty important message for young couples though I feel like Stan and Fran have been down this road a bit before as well, but the fact that we’re seeing this premise take hold of a much more millennial-skewing couple has me thinking there was still enough there to work with which made for a fun time.

If the show wanted to completely eliminate the Roger and Stan/Fran bits I would not have been mad because Hayley checks in with another winner this season.
