English Dub Review: Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun “Lost and Found”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
With everyone aware of her limited time left except herself, Nene goes looking for a conspicuously distant Hanako.
OUR TAKE
We continue the story carrying on from last week’s revelation about Nene’s ever depleting lifespan. It seems that this will be a recurring thing over the course of the season, even though the audience wasn’t really aware of it until Kou was AND the events of the last two episodes technically didn’t happen. Which I suppose means that EVERY supernatural related character was aware of it prior to this, even Kou’s brother Teru, who still has a major stick up his backside when it comes to the spirits around him. So, with that in mind, it seems that this episode is just about processing that big revelation for everyone…except Nene of course, since she can’t be told about it. Yeah, we’ll see how long that lasts. For her, this is just another regular day of dealing with school and finding a love letter that was not meant for her, which leads to a pretty cute scene of her kinda rubbing it in Hanako’s face and using it as a chance to cheer him up (but instead make him feel more guilty), only for him to point out it was actually yet another letter from Akane to Aoi. Better luck next time for both of them, I guess.
So yeah, this episode isn’t really the most substantive, just being about the emotional impact of what happened last time. Despite the seemingly apathetic and aloof approach Hanako and the librarian are putting off, I kinda doubt they’re not looking into SOME way of keeping her untimely death from occurring, especially if they’ve been aware from it for some time and gotten to know and like her IN that time. There’s still three quarters of the season left and while I’m sure we’ll make use of it with a bunch of individual plotlines and adventures, revealing Nene’s premature death is how they kicked this season off, so it will very likely be something important closer to the end. Last season, that was Nene’s curse of turning into a fish (which I guess is still there? If so it hasn’t really come up) and now it’s something else. Heck, maybe they’ll even make her Hanako’s successor like they hinted at, which…well, I don’t know if that would be the best ending for her, but we’ll see. In the meantime, all we can do is sit back and wait for what comes next in the season.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
