English Dub Review: How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer “That Time I went to a Mixer and…”

Overview:

Three guys meet three cute boys at a mixer with no girls?!

Our Take:

I want to preface that I don’t have any problems with Yaoi anime I’ve enjoyed a fair bit of it. Anytime a show can surprise you though I’ll take it. When the episode started Tokiwa was planning to meet a girl from his school at a mixer and brought his friends. Based on the title I figured that they would wind up hanging out with guys. I imagined that the girl was a cross-dressing guy but imagine my surprise when it was girls cross-dressing as guys because they work at a host place. To be honest either premise could have been fun but Suo (the girl that Tokiwa was meeting from class) being a jealous girl while pretending to be a guy seems interesting.

What I thought was going to be a standard, boring anime has surprised me. The first episode at least has done its job and got me wanting to see more. I look forward to the other characters and pairings getting fleshed out a little more but right now I’m excited to see how Tokiwa and Suo’s relationship develops.
