English Dub Review: Dungeon People “Those Who Are Not Protected”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
A party of murderers set their sights on the dungeon of Antomurg.  To maintain order in the dungeon, Belle and Clay must deal with the rule-breakers.

Our Take:
As we approach the end of the season, the dungeon duo has now realized that the kingdom of Frairelvant is the least of their concerns.  After that problem was handled off-screen, we now have another “formidable” adversary seeking to destroy the dungeon’s peace or, in this case, adversaries.  A trio of manipulative, rule-breaking thugs, consisting of Hilkemast, Buggs, and Atoto, arrive to cause trouble by killing anyone and anything in sight.  Of course, the only people capable of stopping them are Clay and Belle, who decide to teach them the consequences of disrespecting adventurers.  However, what they don’t realize is that they have some extra help from a mage named Millielent, who goes undercover to reveal the murderers’ true colors.
Considering how low-stakes the ninth episode was, I wasn’t expecting much out of the show’s penultimate episode, which showcases the duo protecting the dungeon from the rule-breakers.  By that, I mean killing them off so they could turn them into the undead.  On the bright side, we get to see Belle’s new battle suit, which undoubtedly defines her perseverance in maintaining peace in her dungeon.  Regardless, this is another episode that forgoes the show’s formulaic structures in favor of showcasing Clay and Belle’s skills in action as the dungeon’s protectors.  Although there is some bloodshed because of it, with most of it coming from Belle’s profound magic, “Those Who Are Not Protected” retains the innocence and comfort of its tone without being a completely different show altogether due to its subtly dark elements.  As for Millielent, it’s possible we might see her again after she encounters the Ice Wolf’s Fang, still exploring the dungeon, although the question of when has yet to be answered.
