Review: American Dad “The Legend of Mike Madonia, the Rototiller Man”

Overview

Francine joins Tuttle’s gardening club, but he wants her gone; the rest of the family practice the power of yes..

Our Take

Mike Madonia refers to Roger’s new personality that works at Home Depot and helps Fran make a kick-ass mutated garden as payback to Al Tuttle who refuses to let Fran join a gardening club that he’s a part of. Turns out, Al was worried that he wouldn’t be the cool one of the gang if Fran to join because she would be the bell of the ball. Meanwhile I guess Stan and the others just decide to get jobs at Home Depot and just hang out.

The meat and potatoes of the episode is excellent this week, featuring an ode to Tremors and amazing guest stars Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon as themselves attempting to help save Langley Falls from the devastation caused by the Graboids only to fail miserably. Fortunately, the duo are hysterical and that’s all we needed from them anyway. Another Roger persona shows up at the end but I’ll save that one for ya’ll.

Whatever the rest of the family was even doing at Home Depot, I don’t even know, but the main Paul Stroud-written story is very much an instant classic for the series featuring all of the various call backs and craziness that this show is best known for. Moreover, we get one of the better Klaus episodes in a while. As a former Home Depot employee, I can say most of what we got to see this week was accurate and as close of a documentary of the retail outlet that you’ll probably ever see.
