English Dub Review: My Happy Marriage “The Gifted Communion and Demons”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
As Miyo tries to save a villager using Dream Sight, Kiyoka battles a demon.  Later, Arata shares surprising information on the Gifted Communion’s founder.

Our Take:
Three episodes in, and we’re already starting to get into the supernatural part of the series.  Not that there’s anything wrong with the drama in between, as the protagonists’ endearing chemistry is still the glue that holds it together.  This comes after one of the villagers has been affected by a mysterious demon running amok in Kiyoka’s hometown, prompting him to face it head-on.  As for Miyo, she attempts to help the villager through her Dream Sight ability before Arata arrives to warn her of the dangers of using the ability.  Considering how powerful Miyo’s ability is, it can also put her at risk of losing her life if used carelessly.  The episode is the latest to showcase Miyo’s Dream Sight in action, and with her gradually growing confidence, it’s proven to be more profound against any sinful demon.
However, the crucial part of the episode is the mystery surrounding the Gifted Communion, a nefarious cult that’s planning to create a new world order for supernatural ability users by transforming humans into demons.  Following a thrilling confrontation that features Tadakiyo using his frost abilities, Arata informs the couple that the cult’s leader is Naoshi Usui, but here’s the real kicker.  Usui came from the same Usuba bloodline, destined to marry Miyo’s mother before she passed.  With Usui’s connections to Miyo’s history and the cult itself, he could wind up being another adversary who’s as nefarious as the Saimori family, adding to the show’s enthralling stakes.  Of course, the episode isn’t without its endearing moments to balance the danger, including Kiyoka and Miyo’s special moment and Fuyu’s acceptance of Miyo.  Fuyu’s still a grouch, but I’m happy she came around in her own way before Miyo and Kiyoka departed.  With Kiyoka’s hometown now behind them, it’s now Miyo’s turn to confront her own history.
