English Dub Review: I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History “The Villainess and the School Idol”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Alicia deals with another deranged bully and Liz is still confused about what her powers do.

OUR TAKE

Well, we were lucky enough to get a week off from this nonsense last week, but now we’re back for the final three episodes, so let’s hold our nose and dive back in to just get this over with. The last few episodes have had some of Liz’s supporters trying to get Alicia in compromising situations that make her look bad, only for her to get some help from other students that clear her name, but then Alicia decides to play up her dumbass “Villainess” persona to keep stirring the pot. This time, it’s more of that, though in this case it’s just Jane from a couple episodes ago just completely going insane because her doctored recording scam didn’t work out. And you can tell how little I care about her because that is the first time I have mentioned the name Jane this entire time. And that was the last time! It’s just yet another situation meant to show how benevolent and awesome Alicia is supposed to be while also wanting her to look cool by being mean, but also somehow this makes her some sort of revolutionary because she cut her hair short to show solidarity with a girl who was bullied and had her hair cut off, and now a bunch of girls are cutting their hair short too! Wow, is this going to lead to anything? No? Then what the fuck are we doing here.

Meanwhile, Liz is still blissfully unaware of how her powers are really affecting people and no one is willing to tell her, which just makes her confused and concerned. She’s also jealous of Prince Duke being in love with Alicia, which causes her powers to have weird effects like making some of her supporters more mean, but again, she doesn’t understand that her abilities are causing this. So, when she tries to make friends with Gill, one of Alicia’s friends/minions, and wants to connect with him on the fact that they both started as commoners, she’s met with suspicion and irritation, and then when she accidentally gets him influenced by her powers, she gets even more of that from Duke. Now, her lack of control over these abilities is definitely a problem, but it’s clear by now that she has no idea what the hell is going on and has no malicious intent with this. So, can someone please just sit her down and tell her what’s happening so maybe she has a chance to work on things before they go bad again? This whole Villainess shit is really not accomplishing anything and only making things worse. Two episodes left, let’s try to hold it together.
