English Dub Review: Dungeon People “Monster Job Interview”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Today’s job is a monster interview.  Clay is perplexed by the monsters who file in one after another, especially by a monster with a face clearly different from his resume!

Our Take:
Following our delightful lunch break, we’re now set to return to work for the show’s second half.  However, instead of performing the usual duties, this week’s episode has Belle and Clay encounter their toughest task yet: interviews.  Performing a job is challenging enough, but getting one through an interview is another level of toughness, especially when you attempt to make a good impression on a manager.  Of course, in Belle’s case, it’s about performing a final check for the monsters before they take on the job, so there’s no pressure given for this type of interview.  However, Belle and Clay’s duty takes a sharp turn when a knight-like creature named Helldande murders one of the interviewees and seeks to claim the magic gems for himself.
The episode also sees the return of the adventuring group, Ice Wolf’s Fang, who was last seen in the third episode.  It turns out that their encounter in the dungeon may have taken a toll on the group’s leader, Fen, who’s left perplexed by his loss against Clay’s skeleton form.  But despite that, they decided to try the dungeon again, where they had to defeat one of its new monsters, the cat-like monster named Fuuka, in order to progress further.  With the return of the Ice Wolf’s Fang, I’m assuming that the group may pose a threat to Clay’s journey to find her father and even Belle’s dungeon business.
Additionally, the episode delved into the concept of the “demon world”, which is actually the tenth floor where Belle and Clay once fought and where they conduct their interviews.  Honestly, Belle’s explanation of the demon world and the magical powers affected by it is enough to make my head spin since the show’s usually prone to over-explain the dungeon’s world-building.  While it’s not much of an issue in earlier episodes, “Monster Job Interview” offers that moment where its complexity may affect the viewer’s experience.  Regardless, the series continues to retain the lighthearted and humorous tone amid its world-building and violence, with the latter being from Clay murdering Helldande.
