English Dub Review: Blue Lock “Flowers”
Overview:
As Aiku looks back on why he converted to a defender, the U-20s uses their specialty quick attack. Reo copies Nagi’s skill to hold them off. Isagi yields the last step to Rin, which is stolen by Barou who has waited for the chance in the dark.
Our Take:
The beginning of this episode got me thinking that coaches and adults probably don’t realize how important they are in a child’s life. Comparing Aiku’s coach to Tsukasa in Medalist is like night and day. Aiku wanted to play near the goal and try to become a striker but he was told that he had to be a team player or he wouldn’t play. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with that mindset but when kids are that young what can it hurt to let them do different things and have fun? Aiku was even planning on quitting soccer but his coach told him he could go pro, he was playing soccer for the paycheck.
When the soccer match zooms out to show more players that’s when the animation suffers the most. The CGI used here is bad and I wish they could stick to the same animation they use when doing the up close shots. I wouldn’t say much about it if it was easily ignored but it takes me out of the show and I find myself paying less attention when that happens and I get paid to watch this show.
