English Dub Review: Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles “The Battle to Defend Amande”

Overview

Amande is attacked by monsters, plunging the townspeople into chaos and fear. Liselotte deploys her attendants to help limit the damage, and Rio goes to the east gate to help. Meanwhile, Lucius and the revenants swiftly approach their target.

Our Take

The episode highlights the ongoing chaos as monsters threaten the city, but Amande proves well-prepared for such emergencies. Amid the turmoil, Rio demonstrates his resourcefulness, supported by Aishia’s quick thinking and the highly capable maids. While battles unfold at the gates and a mission to infiltrate the mansion takes center stage, tensions rise as Hiroaki faces challenges, raising questions about his ability to contribute meaningfully amidst mounting danger.

The pacing, however, feels sluggish, with extended sequences of battles and infiltration that could have been condensed for a more dynamic narrative flow. Despite some underwhelming CGI-style battles and repetitive attack animations, the episode more than makes up for it with a few standout moments of character charm and teamwork.

Overall, the episode delivers a mix of action and character moments while building anticipation for the next developments. Though the pacing may feel drawn out for some, and despite the other “Isekaied” hero, Hiroaki struggling to contribute meaningfully, other characters, like Rio/Haruto, take the spotlight in protecting the kingdom. And with that cliffhanger at the end, it’s clear that shit’s about to go down and it feels long overdue with what Alphonse has become…
