English Dub Review: Mission – Yozakura Family “Ai and Mizuki”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Nanao faces off against the remaining Tanpopo agents while Taiyo and Kyoichiro confront Makoto as he tries to enact his plan.

OUR TAKE

The Yozakura Family gets closer to finishing its mission as we inch ever closer to the end of the season. And unfortunately for Nanao, he gets his focus episode last AND his fight with a Tanpopo member last, though his is a bit more closer to him in terms of parallels, with Ai being a tiny child who has some weird deformity that makes her isolated from regular people. And according to the Wikipedia article, it looks like she’s going to survive this whole big battle and go on to be kind of like Taiyo and Mutsumi’s foster daughter, despite never having interacted with either of them once, so I guess there’s that for her to look forward to. Oh yeah, and Nanao also has to fight Mizuki, another Tanpopo leader whose ability is to make giant sacks on his face that make poison gas, so that’s fun. It’s through him that we get a bit more elaboration as to why joining Tanpopo was more appealing for its members, as they were shunned by society for their strange Hazakura based powers and only Tanpopo took them in. I mean a lot of that is also, in at least some of their cases, that Tanpopo GAVE them those powers and deformities in the first place, but let’s not think about that right now.

Anyway, with Mizuki giving his life to help Nanao save Ai, all of the other leaders are taken care of, leaving only Taiyo and Kyoichiro to finish their secret mission to retrieve the Yozakura mother corpse. But since it’s finale time and we only have Makoto left to fight, they’re gonna have to fight him to make this arc feel all climatic and stuff. As revealed in the last episode (which I forgot to talk about I guess), Makoto’s big evil plan is to pull a Silver Age Joker and blow up his hideout to spread all the remaining Hazakura into the water supply, giving everyone who drinks or is exposed to it powers…if they’re compatible. If they’re not, then they die, and if they are but only kinda, it’s basically a fate worse than death, so he’s basically trying to force some evolution because…he’s a mad scientist so that’s just how he gets off on a Tuesday I guess. But ALSO he has fully Blooming powers, probably because he freebased it straight from the Yozakura mom, so he’s gonna be a bit of a challenge in a fight, which will naturally take up the two remaining episodes. See ya then!
