English Dub Review: I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History “The Villainess and the Return”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Alicia emerges after two years of training to confront Liz and continue her villainous efforts.

OUR TAKE

Just like other shows I covered this week, I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History (good lord what is up with these titles) also went on break last week, but unlike those shows, we’re only getting one episode this week. Which is just fine for me because getting a double dose of this one would probably just too much brain damage for one week. As discussed last time, Alicia decided to hole up in a shed and study magic for two years to get past Level 90, as per the instructions of her increasingly worried father. In that time, apparently nothing of consequences really happened, aside from that village she discovered as a kid is now getting closer to thriving because her minions are helping it get back up to code or something. And that’s all fine and good, but Liz Cather is also supposed to be some major growing threat that could be a real danger if left unchecked, right? At least that’s the impression that I got from the fact that she continued to amass an ever expanding following of cultish fans who listen to her every word as if it’s a gospel, which sounds like kind of a bad thing.

Well, Alicia is finally back to confront her. And in the two years that she’s been gone, Liz has…done nothing. We don’t even know if her cult is any bigger, or if she’s made any bigger connections, or even worked on actualizing any of her broad ideas for peace and stuff. But apparently she’s still a very bad person masquerading as good, which is why Alicia the villainess (who is apparently so villainous that she gave up her own eye to someone blind just so she could wear a frilly eyepatch) must stop her from…doing…something??? Okay, apparently Liz has become at least somewhat aware of her status as The Saint and may be using that for her personal gain, but while that’s pretty shady, she’s not really doing anything wrong…yet. I’m sorry, I just don’t know how I’m supposed to view her or think of her here. Is she a growing threat in the making? Is she a misguided hero who needs someone to keep her in check? Is she just some dumbass who shouldn’t have the power she wields? We’re rapidly approaching the end of the season and possibly series, so I guess we’ll find out what sometime soon!
