Review: The Solar Opposites Halloween Special Part 2: The Hunt for Brown October

Overview

It’s another Halloween Again! A direct sequel to our first hauntingly hilarious Halloween Special!
Our Take
It’s hard to believe that Solar Opposites is up to FOUR holiday specials at the moment, so much so that Hulu gave the holiday specials its own tab on the show’s portal. In fact, the show has been doing so for so long the last time these guys did a Halloween special we had Justin Roiland still has Korvo which, admittedly, I miss but Dan Stevens is doing a more than serviceable job.
As we await the show’s sixth season, Solar Opposites gives us something to snack on with a premise that sees Korvo and fam trying to get into a swank country club (Universal Basic Guys JUST did this premise) all-the-while everyone deals with their own take on whether or not Halloween is a suitable excuse for a holiday. Famously, Korvo thinks the prospect of giving out candy to kids wearing costumes is horrifying and he wants nothing to do with it only to forget that there are spiritual consequences for not adhering to the practices of the holiday and as such the Spirit of Halloween takes over Korvo’s life until he admits that Halloween is the bestest holiday ever.
The big reveal of the country club is more cute than anything, but the REAL climax is a certain someone pissed off about that fact that Thanksgiving doesn’t get the holiday respect it deserves. The idea is hilarious and the plot twist of who is behind this madness makes it even more comical as the show devolves into a chaotic war between customs. Even if our final bosses look like derivative caricatures from Squidbillies, the overall plot is very funny with lots of humorous dialogue and thoughts on the classic Halloween holiday that should make those hardcore Halloween folks cover themselves in satirical drip.
